So, I've been considering starting a blog for a while now. I've sort of been using Facebook, but that subjects any and all of my "friends" to read my rambling thoughts, or at the very least it leaves a reminder of my thoughts on their newsfeed. This way, I'll have a space where only those that wish to read my rambles as I "air" them, will be able to do so.
That, and, it seems I'm ever becoming more and more like my dear friends (this is always the case when you draw close to people...more on that subject later, perhaps), and a few of those dear friends blog.
I so enjoy reading their thoughts, perhaps someone will enjoy reading mine. Or should I say mayhaps? (Another piece of me accrued from a friend.)
If you've made it this far into this post, you will have by now realized that I employ grammar, at times spelling, punctuation, and syntax in whichever way pleases me best at the time. That is, when I am writing for me. Of course when I write assignments I'm a tad more anal. But for informal writing, I prefer informal rules--you've been forewarned. ;)
As I should be studying at the moment, I'm afraid I'll have to close soon. One last thing--my blog's title.
I often write because it helps me to breathe, it helps me to see, it helps to remind me of things like hope and faith, and it helps me to work through the thoughts that swirl around in my head like the sea on a windy day--intermixing and flowing in and out and back in again. It is to this end that I begin this blog. My title stems from what is possibly my most favorite poem of all time, by Emily Dickinson.
"Hope
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me."
This metaphor was emblazoned upon my mind from the moment I first read it. Within this short poem is so much meaning, and maybe sometime I'll post my analysis. For now: Hope is like a little bird, beautiful and resilient and ever present. Feathers and a song. :)
Love it, my dear. And I love that poem by Emily Dickinson!
